  • In the textbook “THE ART OF VINYASA: Awakening Body and Mind through the Practice of Ashtanga Yoga” textbook by Richard Freeman & Mary Taylor read the below sections. Be sure to highlight important sections and/or take notes. *The “Yogic Philosophy – Multiple Choice Quiz (Part 2)” is based off the information this reading and the above reading.
    • Introduction
    • In PART ONE: Foundation: The Roots and Depth of Yoga read Chapter 1 “Natural Alignment: The Internal Forms of the Practice. In this chapter, you will find information on the Jālandhara Bandha. Once you get to that section, watch the below video for a visual on this bandha.

Students with high blood pressure or heart problems should avoid breath retention practices and/or check with their doctor before practicing.

Students that have any neck or spinal issues (ex. Cervical Spondylosis, hernia, etc.) should avoid practicing the bandhas and/or check with their doctor before practicing.
