This week we did a very brief review of Connective Tissue and then discussed the Nervous System. This system is a full body system that brings us to life. We discussed its purpose and function as well as well through a break down of the system covering: the Central Nervous System – CNS (the brain and spinal cord) and the Peripheral Nervous System – PNS (Autonomic NS – Sympathetic NS and Parasympathetic NS as well as the Somatic NS – Sensory/Afferent NS and Motor/Efferent NS). We also discussed neurons and glial cells and their breakdowns (axon, dendrite, ependymal cells, oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, microglia, schwann cells, etc.). Lastly, we talked about how Yoga (as well as Yoga practices like pranayama techniques and meditation) can help the nervous system creating a more balanced lifestyle.
