For this section, you will need to:

  • In the textbook “THE ART OF VINYASA: Awakening Body and Mind through the Practice of Ashtanga Yoga” textbook by Richard Freeman & Mary Taylor read the below section. Be sure to highlight important sections and/or take notes.
    • In PART TWO: Āsana: Movements and Poses Strung Together Like Jewels on the Thread of the Breath read Chapter 5 “Building Sūrya Namaskāra.”
    • View APPENDIX 5: Sūrya Namaskāra A and B. This section depicts a picture line up of the postures in Sūrya Namaskāra (Sun Salutations).

The first video “About Jump Backs” discusses safety in Jump Backs. The second video “Why Do Some Students Struggle With Sun Salutations” discusses how physical and mental limitations can cause struggles when practicing the Sun Salutations.
